Here's the proposed schedule - please let Shane know what your travel plans will be, if you have better ideas, or if you can help organize any events. Also: the Paradise Point house needs to be cleaned out - so if you have free time to either help clean, or to claim any mementos of summer, plan to spend some time there too! Tip: Bring your own boxes; there are plenty of mementos and photos for everyone to take home.
Shane is staying in Greenport from 10 July - 24 July to deal with house cleanup and the real estate sale. So if anyone wants to arrive early / stay later, please let me know; I may have a free bed for you in the cottage before/after the weekend.
Barne & Georgia arrive Thursday, 11-July and are staying in a cottage in Greenport as well (same beachfront property as Shane).
Shane will have a dumpster delivered to Paradise Point, so we can start filling it up when everyone is down there!
Friday Night
Anyone else arriving early, please let us know so we can plan a family dinner Friday. Normally, we just shop at Country View Farmstand and Southold Fish Market and then grill or cook in the cottage.
Saturday
Breakfast on your own; Shane will be stopping at Aldo's cafe early in Greenport.
Join us in the morning at Paradise Point (450 Basin Rd) for a day of memories and mementos with the family. We'll have coffee for the morning, and we need people to help coordinate a pickup lunch at the beach house Pat & Ed were always at. We'll reminisce about Pat, and sit in her favorite chair and watch the water.
Bring extra bags or boxes in case you want to claim some of Pat's giant collection of glassware to take home with you. There will also be lots of old family photos for people to take home - anything you don't take with you will go into the dumpster to clean out the house for sale!
Dinner: Family barbq at Shane's cottage in Greenport. Along with Barne & Georgia, we have two cottages, several Weber grills, and a great private beach for the family to enjoy. If you can help coordinate what to cook for dinner, please let Shane know - and if anyone has food allergies (At least one person is allergic to seafood).
Important: we will be guests at Shane's friend Pat Nelson's property in Greenport. We need to respect Pat's space, as well as his other guests (he rents out the main house to other visitors). So please keep the noise down, and be sure to clean up after yourself.
Sunday
Breakfast on your own.
Those who wish: attend 10AM worship at Pat's church, the North Fork United Methodist Church (UMC), where Pat will be recognized during the service.
Everyone: 11:15AM attend coffee & fellowship at the North Fork UMC when their service is over. We can meet the congregation and Pastor Tom of the church.
At Noon, we'll all drive over to the the family plot, which is behind the First Presbyterian Church. Pastor Tom will lead us in a few brief remarks and allow family members to share brief thoughts about Pat before we leave her ashes with Edmond.
After the interment, some people will need to drive home; the rest of us will be heading to Country Corner Cafe in downtown Southold (we've been there before) for a lunch in their upstairs room.
Anyone who is planning to stay in the area is welcome to help Shane clean out Paradise Point to prepare it for sale. Unless of course someone in the family is interested in buying the property! Shane has details on the trust which owns the property; the current plan will be to sell it shortly after our memorial. Feel free to share the website: https://450basin.life/
If you are staying, please feel free to stay at Paradise Point as well, there will be plenty of free beds and a wonderful view of the water.
